Defending Biodiversity in the Klamath-Siskiyou

KS Wild's mission is to protect and restore wild nature in the Klamath-Siskiyou region of southwest Oregon and northwest California. We promote science-based land and water conservation through policy and community action.  We envision a Klamath-Siskiyou region where local communities enjoy healthy wildlands, where clean rivers are teeming with native salmon, and where connected plant and wildlife populations are prepared for climate change.

KS Wild achieves this vision through outreach and advocacy-based education, by building community support for the conservation of the region’s special places and natural gems, by being the watchdog and steward of northern California and southern Oregon’s public lands, public trust waters, and the diversity of plant and animal life.

Protecting Forests

Focusing of the public lands that comprise the Rogue and Klamath River watersheds, KS Wild monitors and influences federal management of over 8 million acres of forest.

Retaining Wildlands

The Klamath-Siskiyou region is home to the largest expanse of wildlands on the West Coast. Some of these pristine wild areas are protected as Wilderness Areas or through other administrative designations, but many other wilderness-quality lands are waiting to be protected and face a variety threats.

Preserving Clean Water

All of our work to protect public lands supports healthy forests and ecosystems in our nearby watersheds that collect, filter, store, and provide fresh clean water to many species, including us.

Safeguarding Wildlife

The Klamath-Siskiyou is refuge for healthy populations of unique species and host to many ecosystems that form networks and corridors for wildlife.

Equity & Inclusion

KS Wild is committed to building and maintaining a diverse, equitable, and inclusive conservation organization.

KS Wild understands that diversity, equity, and inclusion are essential components of not only an effective conservation movement, but of resilient communities. We continue to seek the best practices of inclusion for our board, staff, supporters, event participants, and the general public.

To achieve our conservation mission, we know that we must engage and collaborate with people no matter their age, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, national origin, religion, or disability. KS Wild works to protect public lands and waters in one of the most ecologically important regions on the planet, and we strive to ensure that this place is continually cherished by all of humanity.

A Voice of Credibility and Experience

Formed in 1997, KS Wild is a respected and influential voice on public policy issues facing the management of public lands in the Klamath-Siskiyou Bioregion.  Along with our supporters, KS Wild has the power to convene diverse stakeholders, monitor our public lands, and gather credible science and research to inform and solve some of the toughest land policy challenges facing our bioregion.  This balanced approach to land management has helped to protect tens of thousands of acres of native forests and has helped to restore previously logged and fire suppressed stands.

Together, “We” are a Network of Influentials and Activists

KS Wild members are often opinion leaders, with interest and involvement in policy issues. Thousands of members throughout the KS take action every month.  We mobilize this formidable force through communications outreach and grassroots support. This is how we bring the full power of KS Wild together to impact legislation addressing issues such as conservation, ecosystem restoration, and clean air and water. As we further align and strengthen our network, KS Wild will become an even more powerful advocate for our one-of-a-kind Bioregion.

Defending Against Threats

From clean air and water to support for the public’s national parks, wildlife refuges, and public lands - many of the same issues that touch people also touch the wildlife, plants, and ecosystems that reside in our beloved bioregion. At KS Wild we work to defend the best and restore the rest.  By safeguarding our great natural heritage, we protect our nation’s distinctive ways of life. That’s why KS Wild works tirelessly on behalf of a healthy environment, rich in biodiversity.
