Charlie Schelz

Charlie is interested in all things in life, especially how it is all connected. Professionally, he has focused on ecological conditions and change, research, habitat restoration, and collaboration.  He has been a botanist, biologist, and ecologist for the past 38 years, and has worked with federal agencies and non-profit organizations throughout the western United States. He worked primarily with the National Park Service, but he has also worked with the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument, the US Forest Service, and as an ecology instructor for San Francisco State University.  His non-profit work includes stints with The Nature Conservancy and the Southern Utah Wilderness Association as well as coordinating closely with many non-profit environmental groups. Currently, he is retired but working part-time as the ecologist for the Selberg Institute, which owns the Sampson Creek Preserve and the Grizzly Peak Preserve in the Ashland area.

He loves living in Ashland with his wife Sonya, and riding his bike throughout the world, and especially following the lives of their two sons in Chicago and New York City.
