Supreme Court denies hearing case: Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument expansion protected

For the past 7 years, the timber industry has filed numerous lawsuits with the goal of reopening these lands for logging. The legal attempts extended from Medford federal courts and made it all of the way to the Supreme Court this winter before the highest court in the country declined to hear their case earlier this month.

The passage of HB 4130-1 in the legislature this year is particularly important to the prospect of building wildlife crossing in our region. Judge Sides with Industry in Pursuit of Public Forests

In late November 2019, a Washington D.C. judge ruled that 2.5 million acres of public forests managed by BLM in western Oregon have a timber-first mandate. If this ruling is upheld, the fate of these public lands will include more ancient forests turned to stump fields, at the expense of our climate, our communities, and our water security.

Art for Conservation: Butterfly Diversity Painting, Up for Auction!

While hiking the mountains of Southern Oregon field biologist John Villella shared his dream with artist Deb VanPoolen, and less than a year later a masterpiece was born! Highlighting the extreme biodiversity and dazzling local audiences, "Butterfly Diversity of the Cascade-Siskiyou" was released just prior to Trump Administration's threats to remove protections for the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument. Now, the painting's influence will live on - let's find the right home for it!

After four local public hearings and thousands of letters to elected officials, support for the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument has been heard! On Thursday, January 12, 2017, President Obama used his authority under the Antiquities Act to expand the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument in southern Oregon.
